After reading 'Just Kids' I fell head over heels for Patti Smith: her words, her music, her ethos and her spirit. Every step of her adult life has represented the importance of fighting for and expressing creativity. If you have a gift you have to share it but you also have to protect it. I have only recently discovered the photographs of Lillian Bassman and fell completely in love. Vanity Fair Magazine singled her out as one of 'photography's grand masters'. Her photos capture a combination of mystery, drama, sensuality and spontaneity. She created the unique quality of her work through darkroom manipulation, blurring and bleaching areas of the photograph.

FRIDA KAHLO: IN PHOTOGRAPHS

Frida Kahlo is an artist that has always fascinated me, partly because she only ever really painted self-portraits claiming that: "I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best". I am also drawn to her because of her very striking style. The other day I randomly decided to search photographs of her throughout her life and the results are beautiful and captivating. Definitely my latest style icon.
